Students with a PG Degree in different areas of Biology (Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Life Sciences etc.) can appear for this exam under the subject Life Sciences. Paper 1 is of 200 marks and is divided into the two sections; Section A consists of 30 objective type questions from General Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) Geography, Mathematics and elementary computer science. Section B consists of 70 objective type questions from the subject Life Sciences. Negative marking is made for wrong answers in Paper I. Paper II is evaluated only on the condition of securing minimum aggregate marks in Paper I as fixed by CSIR. Paper II is also of 200 marks and in it short descriptive answers are to be given for about 15-16 questions out of a total of 42 questions, which are mostly from Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Environmental Biology, Biotechnology and Microbiology.
